The Flaggy Shore at New Quay, where the Burren limestone runs out into the Atlantic and the whole place turns into rock pools, wild grass and shifting light. I have painted this stretch more often than anywhere else and it has never once looked the same twice.

Built up in layers of cold wax and oil on board, palette knife throughout, so you get the roughness of the limestone and the movement of the water in the surface itself. Framed in light oak and left unglazed, so the texture stays visible.

Oil and cold wax on board, 100 × 50 cm. Original, one of a kind.
